Xiotech Names Jim McDonald Chief Strategy Officer McDonald Brings Experience as CTO of EMC and WysDM to New Role McDonald Brings Experience as CTO of EMC and WysDM to New Role (November 03, 2009)

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Xiotech Corporation, an innovator in data storage solutions, today announced that Jim McDonald has joined the company as chief strategy officer. He assumed the role on Oct. 1.

McDonald comes to Xiotech from EMC, where he was a chief technology officer. Before that, he was co-founder and chief technology officer of WysDM Software, Inc., which was sold to EMC in 2008. His career also includes storage roles at several other firms including: StorageNetworks, where he served as director of engineering; Goldman Sachs, Inc., where he held international responsibilities in the systems management, scheduling and primary and secondary storage areas; and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he was the primary architect of one of the first public-access systems on the Internet. McDonald holds a BSc [Hons] in computer science from the University of Edinburgh.

"Jim McDonald is one of the smartest and savviest people I know, and he has a wealth of experience across the spectrum of storage industry roles and responsibilities," said Alan Atkinson, president and CEO of Xiotech. "I am delighted to welcome him to the executive team and know he will help us unlock the unlimited potential of our game-changing ISE technology."

"The storage model, as we know it, is broken. Storage needs grow every year, but the complexity and costs are increasing in lock-step," said McDonald. "Xiotech's innovations around cost-optimized performance, management simplicity and energy efficiency crush this trend and put the control back in the customer's hands. I'm eager to join Xiotech and help lead this change for our customers and for the industry."

"The addition of Jim McDonald brings greater depth and experience to Xiotech and its management team," said Benjamin S. Woo, vice president of storage systems research at IDC. "He has experience from many different sides of the storage landscape, bringing a well-rounded perspective to Xiotech. The recent changes to the executive team are reflective of the commitment Xiotech has made to addressing the ever-increasing demand for storage capacity."
