Curtiss-Wright Controls Debuts Upgraded Multi-Function Display With Brighter, Clearer Rugged Backlit LED TechnologyUpgraded Version of Proven Skyquest(TM) AVDU1626 6.4" Mission Display Delivers Higher Performance and Touchscreen Control in a Small Lightweight Package (March 23, 2012)
ASHBURN, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/23/12 -- Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls, has announced a new upgraded version of the Skyquest AVDU1626 6.4" display, a member of its industry leading family of Skyquest rugged mission displays specially designed for helicopter and fixed-wing platforms. The newly enhanced Skyquest AVDU1626 replaces the original fluorescent tube backlighting system with a brighter, clearer LED backlit design that delivers longer life without performance degradation, and supports touchscreen control. The original Skyquest AVDU1626, introduced in 2007, is a proven compact rugged display deployed around the world. This enhancement is part of CWCDS ongoing support for airborne display and video management solutions that improve operational effectiveness in defense, aerospace and law enforcement applications.
"The new enhanced LED backlit version of the Skyquest AVDU1626 updates and compliments our current broad product display portfolio, utilizing modern LED backlighting for improved brightness and an extended product life," said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions. "This latest enhancement to our rugged mission display product family expresses our firm commitment to ongoing display technology innovation and performance evolution of our Skyquest display product line."
The enhanced AVDU1626 is a versatile display that enables touchscreen control of connected moving maps. The improved display delivers superior performance LED backlighting for a brighter display and improved dimming control all in the same package. It supports NVG filtered lighting and also utilizes a split box design allowing the display head unit to be installed into tighter spaces.
The AVDU1626 is a highly rugged, lightweight, multi-function display. The display provides a range of features that offer users the flexibility needed during critical missions. This mission display is commonly positioned in the cockpit of an aircraft as an aircrew aid to allow them to view the mission video that the observer is working with. The display comes in 2 separate units, the display section (AVDU1626) and the video processing electronics box (AVDU1627). By splitting out the electronics from the display head, it allows integrators to install the display into smaller spaces, which of high importance in today's aircraft where space is a premium. The AVDU1626's optional touch screen feature enables an operator to control a digital moving map connected to the unit rather than requiring a separate control panel or keyboard.
Multiple Video Input Support
The AVDU1626 offers multiple video inputs including composite video, S-Video (Y/C), RGB Video or STANAG 3350/B/C, maximizing compatibility with all leading brands of stabilized airborne camera systems and mapping systems.
Skyquest AVDU1626 Display Performance Features:
- Split-box design to allow for display installation in small spaces
- Multiple video inputs including VGA graphics
- Split screen and Picture in Picture modes
- Very High brightness LED display > 1000Cd/m2, dimmable at all stages of flight, including night flight
- Touch screen interface for control of moving maps (option)
Rugged Video Displays
The Curtiss-Wright's Skyquest family of rugged video displays provides a wide range of multi-function rugged LCD displays for use as part of the Skyquest Video Management System (VMS) or stand-alone operation. These displays are designed for use with FLIR and long-range daylight video cameras, moving maps, computers and radar. The current range extends from 4" through to 20" units, with leading edge functionality including High Definition (HD) compatibility, multiple video inputs, VGA inputs, picture-in-picture facility, video freeze frame, digital zoom and optional quad-display and touch screen.
