My first impressions of the new Canon C300 are simply - wow!

I was going to write a complete "First Looks" tonight, but I cannot do it justice by just putting it all together (and no look at the very excellent manual) was needed as all ports are clearly labelled - right down to the "Air Intake!"

The menu system is succinct, and really a complete novice could work this camera from scratch, or the seasoned expert will grab it and be off shooting with glee - but they'll need a bib to soak up the drool!

Yes it's not inexpensive, but already we have worked out that to hire an Arriflex for 2 weeks would cost the same as BUYING this, so the next shoot is free.

The product manager at Canon for Pro video gear, Charles Montesin has sent us a unit to play with, with a 70~300mm EF lens stapled to the front. And this weekend is the Blues Festival in Echuca. A fantastic subject to test it with!

The Auscam crew are in 7th heaven right now, as we have the choice of the Canon C300, the Panny 3D camera we mentioned earlier AND the Sony HVR-NX30P at our disposal.

(And if any light fingered nasties are looking on, at Chez de Auscam we have a full alarum system, 2 guard dogs (Budweiser and Ally), a ninja cat (CK) and the much feared, and rightly so - Fang the Killer Guinea Pig.

You have been warned.
